One of the India’s renowned IT services company had an urgent and critical requirement for a Compiler Engineer to work on a joint project with Oracle. This role had been open for over 365 days, with several partners and IBM’s internal recruitment teams attempting to close the position, but with no success. The project involved integrating Oracle’s database with LLVM Compiler technology, requiring candidates with deep expertise in C++ compilers like GCC, XLC, and ICC, along with proficiency in UNIX/Linux OS and strong debugging and triage skills.
The technical specificity of the role, combined with the demand for immediate availability, made this one of the most difficult positions to fill. The market for such profiles was limited, with only about 15-20 suitable candidates across the industry possessing the required combination of skills.
We approached this challenge by targeting candidates from product companies where GCC compilers are commonly used.
